Many foot problems can be directly attributed to collapsed/fallen arches or other biomechanical issues such as pronation (rolling in and collapsing of the arches) or supination (rolling outward of the ankles and raising of the arch). Many of these biomechanical faults can be genetic in origin and many patients do not know there is a problem, usually until pain manifests. Orthotics can help to provide relief from conditions of the foot, ankle, knee, hips, and lower back including, but not limited to:

Four signs you may need orthotics:

  1. You stand for more than 5 hours per day
  2. Your shoes are worn out (old)
  3. You have no arch or a high arch in your foot
  4. You have severe pain in foot or heel

Using state of the art GaitScan technology along with a foam cast of each foot, we can fit you for an orthotic that will work the best for you and your needs.

The innovative GaitScan technology process involves:

  1. You walk across a pressure plate on the floor. As you walk across the pressure plate, one foot at a time, thousands of tiny sensors capture the distribution of pressure on your foot.
  2. From your step, the technology will display 2D and 3D images on the computer of the pressure under your foot. Your practitioner can highlight where there is too little or too much pressure
  3. This information is then summarized into a report that helps us to evaluate your foot function and determine if the pain you are experiencing is related to faulty foot function
  4. This data, along with a foam cast impression of each foot is sent out to The Orthotic Group’s lab to have your custom orthotic made. Generally, the custom orthotics are manufactured and shipped back to the clinic in about 2-3 weeks.
How Orthotics are Made

Orthotic Fees.

At the first biomechanical appointment, along with your appointment fee we will also collect a non-refundable deposit that goes towards cost of the orthotics (50% orthotic cost). At the fitting appointment, you will pay your appointment fee and the remaining 50% of the orthotic cost. You will also be given your Orthotic package that will include receipt of payment, biomechanical paperwork, proof of manufacturing and if applicable any paperwork that is required by your extended benefit plan.

Extended Benefits.

While we are not able to direct bill extended benefit companies for custom orthotics, most benefit plans do reimburse for orthotics, but as every plan is different, its important to check your own extended benefit plan for the requirements for custom orthotics. As an example, majority of the benefit plans require:

  1. Medical Doctor’s prescription for orthotics that must be obtained before your appointment
  2. Confirmation that a chiropractor or physiotherapist can dispense the custom orthotics
